Dr. Paul Turek Invited to Speak to the CDC About Advancing Men’s Health
San Francisco – September 14, 2010. Paul Turek, MD, former professor and endowed chair at the University of California San Francisco and founder of The Turek Clinic, was invited to speak at the Centers For Disease Control (CDC) summit on “Advancing Men’s Reproductive Health in the US” last week in Atlanta.
Noting the reluctance of young men to seek healthcare, Dr. Turek discussed the need to better serve this population when it comes to healthcare, screening and health choices. He highlighted his own published research about how infertile men are at higher risk for the later development of both testis and prostate cancer, both of which are curable when found early.
“After 17 years of caring for reproductive-age men, it is clear to me that they are an incredibly underserved population that is at significant risk for curable disease,” said Dr. Turek.
The Summit’s agenda included presentations and discussions by stakeholders about strategies for addressing male reproductive health problems. Participants representing government agencies, national organizations serving health professionals or consumers, and academic programs involved in promoting men’s reproductive health were invited to attend. Dr. Turek, as President of the American Society of Andrology, was one of the stakeholders invited to attend this meeting.
